Geography Study of Earth

One of the most important disciplines of global studies, Geography, is also the quintessential discipline that commands and directs a reservoir of knowledge about our earth. Literally translated to €˜the study of the earth€™, its first recorded usage was in ancient Greek tomes, by philosopher Eratosthenes. Geography is an all-encompassing science area of knowledge which includes the sciences of cartography, geology, topography, demography and ecology. Taught extensively in even the most rudimentary levels in schools and other academic institutions, the study of geography is essentially directed towards building an awareness and appreciation of the diverse topologies of the world.
It would be wrong to mark Geography as strictly an inferential, or an empirical science. Indeed, Geography is built on the promontory of intelligent expressions of the spatial awareness that exists in human beings. Geography is a reflective science, showcasing the diversities of different areas, environments, vegetations, local ecosystems and natural habitat. The study of geography commands global interest, and is extremely dependent on local assimilation of data, and systematic observation of certain local phenomenon.
Modern geographers have further divided the discipline of geography into categories of Physical Geography, Environmental and Ecological Geography, Geo-Demography (also called Geo-diversity), Advanced Cartography (or Geomatics) and Regional Geography.
The discipline of geography, since ancient times, has been aided by navigation and travel, as the travellers brought back legends and stories about unseen lands. These legends have since helped cartographers delineate an approximate model of the earth, which even to this day, is undergoing constant revisions and remodelling.
